American Roulette

American roulette is among the table games, which enjoys the greatest popularity in casinos. The game tends to become more popular at casinos in Asia and the United Kingdom, but is somehow avoided by players in Europe, as their focus is primarily on the European version of roulette.

The main objective, which any player pursuits, is to predict, which numbered pocket the roulette ball is going to settle into. In order to do that, all players make bets on a particular number, after which the dealer turns the roulette wheel in one direction and spins the roulette ball in the opposite. Once the ball finds its way into the pocket with that particular number, the respective players get paid. All 38 numbers are identically arranged on the wheel, thus, the ball has an equal probability to settle in any of the divisions.

Differences between European and American Roulette

So, let's start with the logo of the game. American Roulette is modified in order to increase casino profits and reduce the chances of players to win. Thus, European roulette is preferred all over the world, because it gives a higher chance of a player winning. A common feature shared by both wheels is that the numbers alternate between black, red, and green for numbered pockets. Odd and even numbers also alternate.
The order of the pockets on the wheel looks random, but in fact it is organized in a mathematical way in a special way, so that the chances of each number falling out are equal. An interesting fact is that if you summarize all the numbers on the wheel, you get a total of 666 (aka “Devil's Number”).
With the American wheel, numbers seem more structured. On it, the opposite numbers are two consecutive. Even though there is no clear picture of how the numbers are structured on the European wheel, you can easily see that they almost perfectly alternate between high (from 19 to 36) and low (from 1 to 18). The only exception is where 5 is adjacent to 10. There is also another subtle difference between the arrangement of numbers on two wheels. On the American wheel, the numbers are facing outward, and on the European - the numbers are facing the center of the wheel.
